Summer Schedule
Find out about our Traditional Camp (ages 7-14), Climb On! Camp (ages 13-15), Leader In Training (age 15) and Counselor In Training (age 16).
Traditional Camp is for children ages 7-14. We offer kids a true summer camp experience that emphasizes their social and emotional development. Kids who attend Camp Shaver are given a unique opportunity to learn social skills, make new friends, and develop their independence and self-esteem all in a safe, supportive community environment. Our highly-trained, dedicated staff excel in fostering friendships between their campers and giving each camper the individual attention and opportunities for growth that they deserve. While they are at camp, campers will choose from traditional camp activities like archery, riflery, arts and crafts, and climbing, as well as other activities like dance, guitar, Glee, Stomp!, Sand Castle Building, Fort Building, martial arts, Bugs ‘n Dirt, cooking, team sports, high ropes course, rappelling, and many more! All cabins perform a service project, allowing campers to discover how it feels to give back. Daily non-denominational, age-appropriate chapels and devotions giver campers a way to relax, reflect on their day, and develop a sense of self and empathy for others. All campers will participate in an overnight campout on Wednesday night with their own cabin. For many campers, this is the first opportunity they have had to camp out in the woods. The camp staff provide a safe and exciting overnight experience for campers of all experience levels. Overnights allow campers to experience the wonder of cooking over a campfire, eating s’mores, and sleeping under the stars. Traditional camp is a one-week program, beginning on Sunday and ending the following Saturday.
Climb On! is for campers who are ages 13-15. Campers in the climbing program will have additional opportunities over other campers to develop their sense of confidence, a love of the outdoors, new skills, and an appreciation for the lifelong sport of climbing. The climbing program coincides with sessions 4 and 8 of traditional camp. Campers in Climb On! will spend an extensive amount of time on camp’s climbing/rappelling wall and high ropes course, as well as taking a day trip to a nearby bouldering area, and at least one top-roped rock climb. In addition to gaining climbing experience and learning climbing techniques, campers will learn to belay, tie knots, and more! A familiarity with climbing walls is recommended, but not required. A moderate amount of physical fitness is also recommended. *All climbing done by Camp Shaver is top-roped, meaning that campers are being belayed from set anchor points, and are not setting hardware or lead climbing at any time.*
The LIT Program is for 15 year olds. This leadership program allows teens to meet new friends their age, develop life skills, explore what it means to be a leader, and further the development of their independence and self-confidence, in a safe and supportive community environment. The first week of the program is spent playing games, learning teaching and cabin management techniques, developing friendships, and much more. LITs will also become first aid and CPR certified this week. Week 2 involves a 4-day backpacking trip in the Santa Fe National Forest. The trip serves to teach LITs survival and camping skills, as well as a bonding experience for the group. Once they return from the trip, LITs spend their last week at camp in a cabin, shadowing a counselor and practicing the skills they learned in the first two weeks. Going through the LIT program is the best way to become a CIT at 16 and eventually a staff member.
CITs are motivated teen volunteers who want to spend between one and five weeks of their summer at camp. CITs spend their time living in a cabin with campers and staff members. They shadow their counselors and help teach activities, expanding on the things they learned as an LIT. All CITs will receive additional training and teambuilding activities, both throughout the year and once they get to camp. CITs do NOT have to be former LITs or even campers. We welcome all interested 16 year olds to apply. However, the CIT application process is very competitive and early application is recommended.

Pricing
Realizing that families have differing abilities to pay for a camp experience, we have a voluntary 3-tier pricing system. Please take a moment to look at the rate descriptions and determine which one your family is able and willing to pay for your child’s camp experience. This is strictly an honor system: select the fee and dates that are right for your family. This program is voluntary and in no way influences the experience children receive. Prices include youth program membership.
Choose the camp fees that best suit your family’s ability to pay.
Rate A- $550. This fee is based on the actual cost to operate camp programs including wear and tear and depreciation.
Rate B- $500. This fee is partially subsidized and does not include wear and tear and depreciation.
Rate C- $450. This is our traditionally subsidized rate and does not reflect the true cost of operating camp programs.
Forms for additional financial assistance can be obtained at any Y branch or downloaded from the Camp Shaver website.
